Marketing your Visual Novel for Kickstarter

Hello everyone! Welcome back to another devlog – this time with a slightly different twist. Today, I’ll be talking about something that a lot of VN devs seem to struggle with: Marketing. Specifically, marketing your VN for Kickstarter.

Going into The Divine Speaker’s Kickstarter, we were all nervous but confident. We knew that we did as much as we could beforehand to run a successful Kickstarter and we were happy with our starting position.

45 days later, we finished at 183% of our goal, $29,499AUD.

TDS Making-Of #2: Leaves Shadow Effect With Renpy

I first found about the possibility of using shadow effects thanks to Katy133’s video that showcases Ren’py’s AlphaMask feature. If you want to try it for yourself, Katy133 helpfully provided a customizable mock game on Lemmasoft so you can try the shadow effect for yourself.

TDS Making-of #1: Ren’py shake and blur

We chose to write the TDS Making-Of series as an attempt to explain how the game’s “special effects”, and other tidbits were made, and perhaps give a hand to other Renpy programmers out there who may want to achieve similar special effects in their own games.
